The Enrolment Enviroment
Having the user seated is best for enrollment (less height variance and less user movement).
Enrollments should be performed under controlled ambient lighting conditions. Avoid bright lights in front or behind the enrollee. Avoid enrolling near windows.
Avoid distractions to the user so that they concentrate on providing the best image of their iris. Keep the monitor screen out of the subject’s view, otherwise they will attempt to watch the enrollment process and not remain focused looking into the enrollment camera (common occurrence).
The enroller should be positioned with a side view of the subject in order to observe the preferred distance between the enrollment camera lens and the user’s eye.
Make the user comfortable with the technology; explain to them that it is safe and easy to use.
Explaining the Enrolment Process
Tell the user ahead of time what is going to occur during the enrollment process.
Perhaps, since operator knows it so well, show them how easy and fast it is.
Explain to the user what they need to do to provide the best images for enrollment.
If the user expresses concern about using the technology, explain we are only taking a picture with a digital camera.
Always refer to the Enrollment Optical Unit as a “Camera”. Never use the word “Scanner”.
Enrolment of the Iris
A quality enrollment of the user’s iris is the most important part of the system.
A good enrollment will provide the person the best possible experience in using the system.
It is better to spend a few extra minutes performing a good quality enrollment then to have the user experience slow recognitions or false rejections.
If the best possible image is captured future recognitions will be faster.
Glasses and Contacts
If the user is wearing glasses, ask the user to remove them for enrollment. (Explain why: can cause reflection and obscure Iris Image….)
Also: removing glasses lets system get best iris image, without scratches, dirt, or light reflections.
There is no need to remove contact lenses for enrollment.
Suggest subject replace glasses after a successful enrollment capture and state glasses can be worn for
enrollment verification
all recognition thereafter.
Performing an Enrolment
Have subject remove glasses and present iris to camera.
Click on Enroll button.
Instruct user to open eyes wide and look straight into the camera taking care not to tilt head.
Perfect Iris Capture
Possible Enrolment Problems
